Youth Leadership Development

Nolda Vivó

Nolda Vivó was raised by a Puerto Rican mother and Mexican father in the South Bronx, not far from where she and her Puerto Rican husband raised four children. After working as a lab technician, she realized her dream of becoming a kindergarten teacher.  For 24 years, she taught bilingual kindergartners in the Bronx and honored their diverse languages and cultures, with loving guidance and creative lessons.

The Nolda Vivó Scholarship is awarded to low-income students pursuing a degree related to bilingual education. The recipient must be committed to advancing the educational attainment of K-12 grade students from low socioeconomic backgrounds through humanizing and transformative educational approaches.

This scholarship is made possible by a generous donation from Mrs. Vivó’s younger sister, Dr. Ana Celia Zentella.

The scholarship winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
